Ronald Stidham

Born on December 10, 1940 at his grandparents' home in Stickleyville, Virginia, Ronald Stidham grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. After being educated in that city's public schools, he earned two degrees at East Tennessee State University before moving to Beaumont, Texas and beginning a long career in higher education. Ronald taught 22 years at Lamar University and also earned a Ph.D. in political science at the University of Houston. In 1992 he accepted a position at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina where he taught for 16 years. Following retirement in 2008, Ronald moved back to Kingsport, Tennessee and now lives in the house he once shared with his mother and sister.

At an early age Ronald developed an interest in the stories he heard at family gatherings and dreamed of becoming a writer. That dream was first realized through numerous scholarly articles and books he wrote while a university professor. Since his retirement from active teaching, however, he has written Tell Us a Big One: Favorite Family Stories and Tell Us Another Big One: More Favorite Family Stories. Both books are part memoir, part old family stories, and part tribute to his wonderful family.
